2026 Referendum

Election Day is Monday, October 19.

Eligibility
To be eligible to vote, you must be:

  • a Canadian citizen,
  • at least 18 years of age on Election Day, and
  • ordinarily resident in Alberta.

Register to Vote
Registering to vote saves you time when you vote! Electors who are already on the List of Electors at their current address do not have to register at the voting place. You may pre-register:

You may also register to vote at any advance voting location in your electoral division or your assigned Election Day voting place.

Voting Days
Eligible electors may vote on Election Day, at any advance voting location their electoral division, or by special ballot.

  • On Election Day, Monday, October 19, electors must vote at their assigned voting place. All voting locations will be open from 9:00am – 8:00pm.
  • Advance voting runs Tuesday, October 13 through Saturday, October 17. Electors may vote at any advance voting location in their electoral division.
  • Special Ballot voting is available for all electors. Applications end September 25 and completed special ballot packages must be received by mail at Elections Alberta no later than 5:00pm on October 16.
Where Do I Vote?

Results
The unofficial count of Election Day ballots is completed after voting closes on Monday, October 19. The count for advance voting and special ballots begins at 5:00pm on October 19. Unofficial results will be available at https://www.elections.ab.ca/elections/election-results/ as counts are completed, by question, by elector division, and by voting method. The count must be completed within 48 hours of close of voting.

In the days following Election Day, returning office staff review the materials from the unofficial count to verify the results. These confirmations are then reported as official results and released to the public. This is known as the Official Announcement of the Results and will take place on October 29 at 10:00 am.
