Special Ballots

You may submit your request to receive a special ballot online, by phone, or by email.

You may choose to:

• Have the ballot package sent to you,
• Pick the ballot package up at your local Returning Office in your electoral division or at Elections Alberta in Edmonton during regular office hours – Monday through Friday 8:15am to noon and 1:00pm to 4:30pm, or
• Arrange for a designate to pick the ballot package up from your local electoral division returning office or at Elections Alberta in Edmonton during regular office hours – Monday through Friday 8:15am to 4:30pm.

The deadline to apply for a special ballot for the Referendum is Friday, September 25 by 4:30pm.

Completed special ballot packages must be received by mail at Elections Alberta no later than 5:00pm on October 16, 2026. Special ballots received after this will be rejected and not counted.

You can track the status of your special ballot using the link provided in the confirmation email you received when you applied.

Once your special ballot is received and the content verified, you will be marked as voted and struck from the voters list, and your ballots will be deposited into the correct ballot boxes.

If your special ballot has not been marked received and voted by October 18 at 5:00pm, you will not be struck from the voters list, and you may vote in person on Election Day.

You may also choose to vote in person in advance voting if you do not believe your special ballot will arrive in time. If you vote in advance, your name will be removed from the voter’s list and if your special ballot is received by the deadline, it will be rejected, as you are already marked as voted.

REMEMBER:
To complete your special ballot, you must include a copy of your accepted identification, review and sign the declaration, and return the ballot on time. Ballots returned late are rejected and will not be counted.
